I was asked a few weeks ago to help with creating a trailer for a martial arts class. I got given a whole load of old-school footage to play; this stuff is GOLD I tell you.
Anyways, I wish I had more time to figure out how to work FinalCut – the last time I tried looking at it I ended up dazed and confused. For this project, I stuck with iMovie. It probably took me a bit longer to get the video finished but it was pretty easy.
Converting the video to something that YouTube would handle well was a bit of a problem. I first tried DivX with the “Handheld” profile to try to compromise on file size, but the result was a bit too blocky. I then tried H.264 which looks great but the conversion to Flash by YouTube ended up with flashes throughout the video. I gave up and re-encoded with MPEG4 with a “medium” quality and ended up with a 25MB .mp4 file that needed to be uploaded to YouTube.
At a 128k upload cap this took a very long time. Thanks Telecon!
